Adventure Seeker | Part 3 - A Beer and a Border

..."oh but wait, there is a pub just up the street."

I woke up to the sound of the alarm clock and thunderstorms. What luck, I wouldn't have to walk along the roadside in the rain. I waited out most of the mornings deluge before I swam across the parking lot and waded into a diner while making my apologies for the small flood I left trailing behind me. I could feel my arteries harden as I ate the fat laden burger stacked with mounds of bacon, I must admit, it went down without any hesitation. Lightning brightened up the diner window convincing me to hold my position.

The next day, I took the bus back to Seaford where I ventured into a convenience store to see if there was anything that I desired. The owner, and I presume his son, were in a conversation with a local. I placed my water on the counter and fumbled my credit card out of the backpack. The conversation ceased as each one looked at me bewildered. The owner asked me what I was doing with a heavy pack on. After I finished my well rehearsed explanation, he repeatedly stated, "wow", "wow", "wow!" He kindly asked if they could take their picture with me and I agreed.

After they all had their rounds of questions satisfied and their photos taken, the owner asked, "would you like to stay here in the store for the night?" Imagine that, he just met me and he is offering his store for me to sleep in overnight. I respectfully declined, but it wasn't going to deter him from performing a generous act. He grabbed some jerky, peanut butter cups, and Gatorade while expressing the gentle demands to take them. Needless to say, this kind of mild celebrity was a bit discomforting. They would surely be doing something more valuable with their time if they knew the many times I asked myself, "What in the hell are you doing, ya' idiot?!"

As I left town the weather started to roll back in, oh but wait, there is a pub just up the street. What a break, I can get out of the rain and have a beer, or at least that's the excuse I gave everyone else. I called Serinda, the ADT Delaware state coordinator, and treated her to lunch and thanked her for her support.

After staying the afternoon at the pub avoiding the weather, I decided to hike overnight in the sultry, no, suffocating heat. I took many breaks along my route, I even took the time to hike over to the main highway to grab a shot of the Maryland sate line, I wasn't going to miss that opportunity after walking across the state. By noon I had managed to hike into Denton.

Am I enjoying the ADT? Well, that is relative. If I were tied up, water boarded, and my nails were pulled from my fingertips, I would have to answer no. Do I want to enjoy this trail? Yes. I will just have to find something within me that overrides all logic which will allow me to continue, after all, there is a reason why everyone says that I'm nuts.
