Spina bifida is a congenital disease. It is by birth. It is the incomplete development of the brain and spinal cord of an infant.

The human brain's spinal cord is made by the plate of the cells in the embryo. The edges of the plate fused to form the neural tube the upper part of the neural tube forms the brain and the lower part of the neural tube forms the spinal cord. Then there's a spina bifida.

Types of Spina bifida

There are three types of spina bifida.
Meningocele
Myelomeningocele
Spina bifida occult

Meningocele

In the meningocele, there is an opening outside the spinal cord In which the membranes protrude out from the sac. In this spinal cord remains intact

Myelomeningocele

In Mylomeningocele there is an opening in the spinal cord but in this, the spinal nerves also protrude out with the membranes.

Spina bifida occulta

In spina bifida occulta there's no opening in this minor code but there is space between the vertebras The baby has a small birthmark.

Causes

It is mainly caused by vitamin B9 folic acid deficiency. When the mother doesn't take too much folic acid then there are more chances to have the spina bifida.
Other involves the genetics and environmental factors of hypertension and diabetes. If the mother has a disease then it can cause Spina bifida

Treatment

If you talk about the treatment there's no treatment of this except the surgery. In surgery there is incision in mother's womb and defected part of developing baby is removed so that after birth there is normal development of baby.
