I think some of the pesticides are not harmful to health, if otherwise nobody would consume fruits and vegetables

That's true, certain pesticides were used in past also which were not harmful but majorly we see these days a lot of harmful chemicals being induced in the crops for faster growth and better looking veggies and fruits.
