I'm not sure what you mean by "only read". You don't have to realize that something is false just because you don't try it yourself.
I have no experience of trying it, and to be honest I am not planning to try it.
I refer myself to reading opinion of experts in the field such as scientists. If they have consenus about something being quackery, I trust them. Or I don't have to verify the theory of gravity by experiencing it by jumping off the tall building. I trust the experts and scientific consensus.
Same as I trust the pilot to fly the plane. I wouldn't be going to the cockpit to question the way fly and express opinion about the way they fly :-)
