in #health7 years ago

It is a big question today which diet is better for us Vegetarian or Non-Vegetarian. I have seen many people discussing on vegetarian and non-vegetarian diet. This debate has been going on for many years. Some people think non-vegetarian diet is healthy for their body, while others prefer to eat vegetarian diet.  But if you analyze both types of foods, you will find both have advantages and disadvantages. Today we will try to know what kinds of advantages and disadvantages lie in vegetarian and non-vegetarian diets and which one is healthier for us.

Vegetarian Diet

Vegetarian diet includes a huge amount of products collected from plants including milk and dairy products. It doesn’t allow any kind of products obtained from animals like chicken, mutton, fish, and poultry. They largely depend on plant food.

Advantage of eating vegetarian diet

  • It is found that the people who are vegetarian and eat large amounts of plant foods get lesser amount of proteins. In many cases, it is seen that high protein diet causes osteoporosis (bone weaken and fracture) and kidney failure. It is noticed that if people intake high protein diet, it reduces the amount of calcium from your body which may lead to bone fracture. Our body needs both protein and calcium equally.
  • Vegetable diet and fruits are loaded with high amounts of carotene, vitamin E and C. These are known as antioxidants which our body needs to prevent cellular destruction.
  • Vegetable diet is loaded with lesser amount of fats. It doesn’t cause obese due to lack of fats. It is also rich in dietary fiber which helps increase bowel movement.

Disadvantage of eating vegetarian diet

  • People who eat high amount of vegetarian diets can suffer from several diseases such as breathing problem, feeling tiredness after a short work and imbalance in body due to lack of vitamin B12. Vegetable food does not carry vitamin B12. It is generally found in non-vegetarian items like eggs, fish, meat and etc.
  • Deficiency of iron, protein and zinc can be possible in people who always intake vegetarian food as it provides lesser amount of these things.

The following symptoms can be visible in case of protein deficiency

  1. Slow metabolism process
  2. Body muscles can weaken
  3. Gaining or losing weight can be problem in case of protein deficiency
  4. Continuous feeling of tiredness
  5. Lack of protein can cause trouble in remedy of wounds and injuries
  6. You can feel joint pain in your body
  7. Protein deficiency can heavily impact blood sugar level which might lead to diabetes
  8. It can make our immune system weaker

Non-vegetarian Diet

The food extracted from animals like poultry, fish and meat is known as non-vegetarian diets. These types of foods also have some advantages and disadvantages for human body.

Advantages of eating non-vegetarian diet

  • Non-vegetarian items are known as a great source of vitamin B12 which is not obtained from vegetarian diets. It also provides high amounts of protein. So the people who eat non-vegetarian foods such as meat, eggs, fish and poultry never suffer from protein deficiency.

Disadvantages of eating non-vegetarian diet

  • People get high amounts of saturated fats from non-vegetarian foods. These types of fats can cause trouble in your heart. According to research, people who eating excessive non-vegetarian diets can have several chronic diseases like hypertension, diabetes, cancer, weight gain, kidney disorder and heart diseases. It can reduce their lifespan.
  • Non-vegetarian people generally avoid vegetables and fruits which add antioxidants and dietary fiber to their body. They mainly prefer to eat meat, egg, fish and poultry. And in lack of dietary fiber human body cannot be able to eliminate toxins clearly. Therefore, both diets should be taken in right proportion to balance your body.

Nice article, but you missed two important advantages / disadvantages -at least for me

Non-vegetarian advantage - you can eat lots of beautiful meat!!
Vegetarian disadvantage - you can’t eat lots of beautiful meat !!

This comment is a bit, but not totally, tongue in cheek...

Cheers

Thank you for remind me these points. I have visited your profile and found good articles there, though, I haven't read them yet.

Haha thanks for the reply - I was mostly joking as I am a bit of a meat eater!

I think those who takes both vegetarians and non vegetarians in balance mode are always the happy one

In order to get protein you need to intake non-vegetarian diets, but there are many people who eat vegetarian foods for whole life and they are also healthy.

@mgibson I would say vegetarian diet is healthy because of me and my husband are vegetarian and were doing well .and @mgibson I thank you for this facts you shared for everyone here.

Thank you grace. However, I am non-vegetarian but that doesn't mean I do not eat vegetarian diets. I also eat many vegetables.

These are some good points. I am for both type of diets. I went vegetarian once and it did wonders on my weight and energy, but eventually I felt like crap because of chronic health issues I have so I went back to eating meat and I feel fine now. But my sister is vegan and she copes well on the diet and her food taste AMAZING! This is a great post, my friend and I can see you put some thought into this. Which diet do you prefer?

I also consume both diets. I support both types of diets as both has pros and cons. We should consume both items but in right proportion.
