discovered the active ingredient in Norvasc® and identified that compound's anti-hypertensive and anti-ischemic pharmacological properties.
Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker that dilates (widens) blood vessels and improves blood flow.
Amlodipine is used with or without other medications to treat high blood pressure.
This drug comes in the form of a tablet you take by mouth.
Dosage Modifications:
Hepatic insufficiency: Consider starting with 2.5 mg/day PO
talk with a doctor before taking Amlodipine tablets if you: have liver problems
have the recent heart attack
have heart failure
are elderly, your doctor may monitor you closely.
have/suffer from severe increase in blood pressure (hypertensive crisis)
side effects of Norvasc include:headache,
swelling (edema) of the ankles or feet,
dizziness,
lightheadedness,
drowsiness,
tired feeling,
nausea,
abdominal or stomach pain, or
flushing (warmth, redness, or tingly feeling).
