And you...

So what is a prostrate gland and what causes this to be such a major health issue for men around the world?

The prostate is a small doughnut shaped gland that plays a vital function in the reproductive system of men. It is located at the juncture of the Bladder and Urethra (it surrounds the urethra) and is vital section of the male sexual organ.

Men typically learn about this gland prostate or it's purpose during that inspiration First Prostate Exam (the eye opener). At the moment the “digital exam” we become acutely aware of many things... first andforemost where it is located and then we look for more answers (initiated by violation).

Prostate Function

The Prostate Gland produces a protein which mixes with a prostatic fluid to create semen. This occurs as the tubes from the testicles carry sperm up to the prostate gland where the sperm is combined with the semen and prostatic fluids. This is now the fluid that is ejaculated during orgasm, through ducts that connect to the urethra. An additional function of the prostate is to help control the flow of urine.

Enlarged Prostate

One of many issues which may occur during a man's lifetime is that the prostrate can become enlarged (this is called; Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia or (BPH)). We must also look at our lowering Testosterone levels as we age as that tends to raise Estrogen, which causes things in our body to enlarge, possibly fibroid or tumors. In the Male body this relates to enlarged Prostate.

Estrogen can be made by the body (in the adrenal glands, or your fat so the more fat you have, the more estrogen can be produced) or come from the foods we eat.

When not addressed, this affliction can escalate into a more pronounced health issue up to including prostrate cancer. It especially becomes a concern or something to watch past the age of 40... but it can affect men at any age. But it must also be noted that simply because you have an enlarged prostate, it doesn’t automatically mean you now have cancer or other serious ailments, it could also be a simple infection. But it is definitely not to be ignored!

Warning Signs

There are many warning signs for an enlarged prostate gland.

  • Weak urniation
  • Burning sensation during urination
  • Incessant need to urinate at night
  • You cannot empty your bladder fully
  • Pain, hesitancy or urgency to urinate
  • Blood in excretions
  • Difficulties getting an erection or impotence

Natural Alternatives

As always, good nutrition and regular exercise are some of the most essential factors in good prostate health.

Avoid Foods with Estrogen (which can cause cancers) in them: Hormone injected meats, GMO foods, sugar, processed foods, fruits and vegetables that were grown with estrogen producing pesticides. Basically eat organic foods or foods you grow organically, especially cruciferous foods (Broccoli, Cauliflower, Kale, Brussel Sprouts, etc.).

It also helps to reduce Aromatase (an enzyme that can convert Testosterone into Estrogen)or use Aromatase Inhibitors like, Stinging Nettle Root (great for inhibiting Estrogen, but also inflammation and even hair loss). Saw palmetto is a good prostate health herb as it offers a powerful compound that influences the conversion of testosterone to DHT.
