For today's weed news we go to the Food and Drug Administration.

Is the FDA finally rethinking their approach to cannabis?

Well, during a recent appearance on CNBC's Squawk Box with Joe Kernan, FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb was asked to comment on whether cannabis is safer than alcohol and if it should be legalized.

Surprisingly, instead of going down the typical road of rattling off a bunch of prewritten propaganda-based talking points, Gottlieb made some interesting distinctions.

"I think the use patterns are different... So I think it's hard to make comparisons between alcohol and marijuana'" said the commissioner.

"There's a difference between decriminalization and legalization... That's a very big difference... We could decriminalize the use of certain substance and the possession of certain substances and not move toward legalization and promotion of use," Gottlieb continued.

The commissioner's comments come after the FDA moved to approve a PTSD study involving veterans and cannabis in May of this year. The following month, June 2018, the FDA also granted approval for the first cannabis-derived medication in US history.

Although this is just my inference, to me it looks like the Food and Drug Administration is beginning to realize that cannabis is not the evil schedule 1 substance that we've been told it is, and may even be hinting at decriminalization.

Some are predicting that should this momentum of pro-cannabis baby steps continue within the FDA, America might one day look back at 2018 as the beginning of the end of nationwide cannabis prohibition!

Let's hope they are correct.
