As a doctor I agree with you, but we shouldn't fast for a long period of time. We need to eat so we can satisfy our Basal metabolism

We need to eat the right things, filled with micronutrients :P Just imagine if someone would eat sugary foods during/after the fast - he would make so much more harm to himself than good
