BMR and calorie needs, the key to reduce weight

in #health5 years ago

We often do exercise or dieting without knowing our target. This is something trying to enter a locked room without a key. Yes, I am talking about BMR(Basal Metabolic Rate) and knowing about personal calorie needs. BMR and calorie needs are the key to reduce your weight by setting a target. If you don’t know how much calories you need to maintain the current weight, then difficult to set the calorie burning target.

Let’s know elaborately about BMR from Wikipedia-

Basal metabolic rate (BMR) is the rate of energy expenditure per unit time by endothermic animals at rest.[1] It is reported in energy units per unit time ranging from watt (joule/second) to ml O2/min or joule per hour per kg body mass J/(h·kg). Proper measurement requires a strict set of criteria be met. These criteria include being in a physically and psychologically undisturbed state, in a thermally neutral environment, while in the post-absorptive state (i.e., not actively digesting food)

We take calories everyday by eating different foods and burn some of those through different activities. For example, if you take 3000 calories one day and burn 2000 calories, then rest of the calories your body will use to gain weight. So, you have to know first how much calories your body needs to maintain the current weight. Then you can set the target that how much extra calories you will burn.

Below chart will make it more clear.

As per above information, the person needs 3036 calories to maintain his current weight. It’s already established that to burn 1 pound of weight weekly, needs to burn around 500 calories per day considering the daily calorie needs.

Earlier people calculated BMR by manually. But, now number of apps are available to calculate those. So, if you want to maintain good health, know your BMR and calorie needs and start the food habit accordingly.

Thanks for stopping by.

Hi @dindar, I always find that eating small portions at meal times works for me and of course cutting down on sugar etc.

That’s a great idea. I am also trying to reduce my weight. I have started exercise and reduced dinner items. Thanks for your comments.
