To continue further, About our Dental Awareness, Lets start with the topic

"The Dental Caries"

So, Lets understand what are caries? Well, In a Layman term a Caries can be defined as a small ditch inside our tooth where food gets stuck when we eat.

However, If we talk about dental caries scientifically, its defined as a microbial process of tooth decay caused by bacteria leading to loss of function of tooth which is Mastication or Chewing.

Now lets see the type of Dental Caries.

There are 3 types of caries.

  1. Caries Involving Enamel or the outermost layer of Enamel which can be seen as tiny black spots on the surface of our teeth.

  2. Caries Involving Dentin or the middle layer of teeth where the cavity is slightly deep compare to enamel caries and the Person is sensitive to Cold, Sweet, Sour objects.

  3. Caries Involving Pulp (Nerves) or the innermost layer of the tooth and the Person feels severe senstivity to Cold, Sweet, Sour & Hot Objects.

Now comes the treatment part: For 1 & 2 ( if the dentinal cavity is not deep) the treatment of choice is Restoration (Filling) of teeth whereas, for 3rd type of tooth decay the treatment of choice is Root Canal Therapy or Treatment.

So, as a Dentist I would recommend to brush your teeth twice daily in order, to stay away from Caries as well as from Dentist too😁
