Eat Your Heart Out Whales...
I am sure we've all seen those commercials where they ask the question, "what's in your wallet?". Going over some pictures from last year noticing him looking up with that charismatic face while holding his tail I thought I could reinvigorate this posting with a bit of "eat your heart out whales", you may have a lock down on the money but he definitely wins with all that charm.
This was from last Halloween when he wanted to be Sharktopus. Sometimes when it comes to kids things just can't be that easy...like just wanting to be a shark. I never heard of Sharktopus before last Halloween so I had to go online to find out that Sharktopus was a half shark, half octopus creature in a horror flick produced in 2010. Though I'll never feel compelled to understand why his parents were letting him watch such a gruesome movie he was adamant he wanted to be half shark, half octopus. Needless to say it isn't easy trying to find a shark outfit let alone one half shark, half octopus so I had to go online to find a kids shark outfit. I picked it up at a local Walmart along with some women's knee high nylons and a few packages of those circular felt chair legs protectors. His mom brought home paper shredding from work and we got busy building our own Sharktopus by filling the nylons with the paper, sewing them to the shark outfit then attaching the felt liners to represent suckers.
We usually spend Halloween over at the great grandmother house to three of my grand kids. She lives or lived I should say as she turned 92 this year and sold her home to go into a retirement home, one block over from what historically has been known as the block to be on during Halloween. It's a street called Cambridge Street and it's located in the predominately wealthy area of East Grand Rapids. Every year for the last forty years they deck out Halloween like some people deck out Christmas. Each year they attract over a thousand kids to their block. Last year the infamous Adam's Family house turned into the Grinch Who Stole Halloween evidently..
The kids love incorporating themselves into a host of the displays set up there...
...he's so serious he almost looks like he belongs there. Here's a few pictures of some of the displays, not all of them are that great of a shot as I took them with my nine year old phone and it was getting a bit dark outside...
This year I am not quite sure what everyone will decide to do since their great grandma doesn't live around the corner anymore. I don't know if everyone will feel at a loss of that traditional trek to her house for pizza and Halloween but I confident whatever they all decide to do they'll still find the fun in Halloween.
