You can buy it on bittrex, poloniex,, c-cex. Or you can "mine" it by running BOINC. Have a look at to learn more about how to get started.

As a PhD researcher, every time I see someone do this, it makes me so, so incredibly happy. Mining sucks! You earn Gridcoin by helping humanity.

So @dutch, what term do you prefer:
Crunching, BOINC, or something else entirely?

Crunching, researching, BOINCing - all great. Just not mining, because it has those POW connotations.

That makes sense. You don't want people to confuse Gridcoin with a Poof of Work system that wastes power instead of a Proof of Research system.

Even 'mine' is great, because it makes people go "Hm, why is that in quote marks?".

Yeah I agree, I find myself using "mine" sometimes because it makes more sense to new users.

Also you can get 3 free GridCoins by signing up to (about $0.60).

Correct. There are also 2 faucets:

The first faucet is entirely free to use, while the second mines a tiny bit of Monero through a CAPTCHA. It is still free, I'm just trying to be 100% transparent. Neither of these faucets is owned or operated by me.

And the first one forces you deactivate your adblocker ;)

Does it..?

It certainly doesn't allow you to use VPN, so that's a pain.

It allows you only to claim coins when you deactivate your adblocker yes.
