Gridcoin wallet and transaction issues

I recently have been trying to figure out the Gridcoin wallet interface but have run into a few snags. the main issue I have run into is that the wallet client has a syncing problem that has made it so that the initial Gridcoin I deposited never showed up. Gridcoin has quite a bit of community support yet the fixes that have been recommended have not worked. I've tried to re-download the blockchain, reset the application, and the other fixes are beyond my technical knowledge. Looking online I see a lot of the same issue with gridcoin and it's wallet.

Gridcoinis an interesting and useful idea for the use of idle computing power but its main drawback is the steep learning curve and a lack of real guidance in the form of solid tutorials or answers to bug fixes. Currently it is not a beginner friendly environment and I don't recommend getting into it until you have built up your skills or the Gridcoin community has made it more user friendly.

One of the major drivers in a cryptocurrencies worth is its ease of use and how easily a Noob can get started, if people are losing coins and unable to sync wallets it becomes an issue that retards growth. It is similar to how daunting the task of getting started with Bitcoin pre 2010. I have faith in the Gridcoin Research team so I know eventually they will get it working smoothly and can begin really growing.

Also if you have any advice for how i can solve my syncing issue please feel free to comment your answer

You claim that your coins have been lost, but you haven't even provided your GRC address, nor transaction ID, so that we can try to provide some advice.

Instead, you are trying to present your issues as a 'common problem' which is affecting nearly everyone. That's absurd - people are not losing their coins with Gridcoin, Gridcoin UI is very similar to other Proof-of-Stake cryptos and sync issues have been very rare lately.

i do not think @mastterroshi is insinuating anything nefarious on GRC's part, so I do not understand your defensive tone here.

their problem is presented as an issue setting up the wallet most likely on the user's end. clearly we will need more information, but this way of asking for it doesn't help = )

He claims that people are losing coins with Gridcoin and that's plain nonsense. Of course, he is a noobie, so some misunderstandings are to be expected. Yet, spreading nonsense is often the worst way to ask for support.

I am not spreading nonsense Vortac my point is that my experience with GRC is that is isn't Noob friendly and that it would be nice for some simplification to occur. I also said the coins didn't show up and asked for help. Never did I say that they were lost (although semantically until they are in my wallet they are lost). your help is greatly appreciated if you know a workaround to this issue though.

Your coins are in your wallet https://gridcoinstats.eu/address/SLsq5D6PxwxscT9JU3A8n8dUEjRPehLph4
you just need to sync upto block 967324 to see them in the wallet UI. The download blockchain wont get youall the way there, you will need to wait for it to catch up. You should see the number of blocks slowly increase. I reloaded the chain yesterday and I had to wait a few hours to get upto full sync, the time it takes depends on your hardware and internet connection speeds.

A good portion of the community agrees that GRC is reaching that point where it will need to be simplified for general use. There are several projects in the works regarding the issue, however they will take time. Expect a lot of polishing working to be implemented over the next 6 months! If you have any suggestions continue putting them out here. The devs are active in the community and read most everything.

regarding this specific issue, double check that the client is fully synced and that you sent the GRC to the right address -- if both of those are correct, we might need some more information. id recommend jumping on irc or slack to see if you cant get help in real time.

Good luck!

Have you fully synced? Your coins will only show once you've synced to the block which contained your funds (this is the case for all/most cryptocurrencies).

I don't believer I was able to fully sync, that's the root to my problem. When I use rebuild blockchain or download blocks it goes through the download but afterwards still says out of sync. Is there a workaround you know of?

@masterroshi

open the client -> click "Rebuilt Block Chain -> from that pulldown menu click -> "Download Blocks"

let that finish and then leave the client open overnight and you should be all set by morning

Ill try this because i noticed a incremental increase in the block size and now I know where in the chain my transaction falls so its just a matter of time until it shows on my wallet.

Both rebuild and download start from scratch (although download is faster), verify that your computer time is accurate and that you have connections, then it's a matter of waiting.
