Limiting the potential flood of price related posts
| GRC rising price brings joy to many of us, but we should consider how and where it is discussed. It is possible that in the following weeks and months price will be rising and it will bring many profit oriented users. Both Reddit and Steemit will be spammed with price discussions. This happened to many coins and some subreddits are very unpleasant, unproductive and cult-like. |

Thus I propose to:
On Steemit to not upvote price related posts that do not bring any additional value. We need to allow in-depth price discussions, but I wouldn't wish to dig through twenty ATH (All Time High) exclamations or mems each day.
Create new sticky topic on Reddit for all price related discussions and ban / remove such posts from the main board.

I strongly disagree about banning it.
You can view it as a sort of spam if you like, but I prefer to look at it as a way to get people excited and interested about something that they may not be able to directly relate to in any other fashion. Not everyone is drawn to altruistic or humanistic causes, but the ones who aren't still likely have friends and family who will be curious if the word of mouth reaches them. The last thing I want to see is academic elitism permeating this space. It's hard enough as it is just to get people to acknowledge that BOINC itself encourages business use, and I'd rather not drive away ordinary Joes who can get excited about prices even if they can't understand or sympathize with the science angle.
And I say that as someone with a master's degree. Let's be inclusive here, not elitist and dismissive.

As I see, r/NEO recently banned such posts from the main board and moved them into daily sticky discussion and it looks much better now. See rules point 2 right hand side.
It's not about being elitist. r/gridcoin is one of few crypto subreddits where someone critical about some aspects of gridcoin (if he states good reasons) is upvoted. I wish it will stay open and friendly.
Price related posts are not harmful, I upvote them too from time to time. You should be very careful when using phrases like "let's ban" here on Steemit, many people are here precisely because you cannot get banned on somebody's whim (like on Reddit, for example). I would edit that title ASAP.
Yes, you're right, I haven't thought it over. I have made some changes in my post.
My post was inspired by problems some subreddits (i.e. Stellar, Neo) that recently became very popular do encounter. It's better to take some steps before it's out of control. One of several posts on r/stellar regarding price discussions.
As I see, r/NEO recently banned such posts from the main board and moved them into daily sticky discussion and it looks much better now.
While I don't approve of ATH and meme posts either, I don't think flagging posts on Steemit will be productive or uplifting for the community. I suggest simply not up-voting it and unfollowing those who you personally consider repeat offenders. As for scrolling, it's not that hard to do. We need to allow community members to express their creativity and excitement through posts on Steemit. Implementing a policy like the one you suggest runs the risk of users eventually blindingly flagging any (even high quality) posts regarding price.
I think your Reddit suggestion is a great one, though!
As for flagging - I was wrong.
I've just checked and r/NEO recently changed rules, see rule no 2 as their sub was getting out of control and became quite an unpleasant place for a moment.
I agree with the others than flagging is a step too far, however, as people who have been around the steemit community for a while know, I am not above politely pointing out the problems with posting speculative posts on the speculative post itself.

Flagging - you are right.
Price brings users, users bring computing power and community power, and those bring more price.
The price of a coin is intrinsically tied with the value of the coins technology and community, besides the additional markup added by speculation. The speculation markup for Gridcoin is virtually zero in my opinion. Look at the pattern of growth recently and our RAC numbers. This is not explosive upward growth. This is STEADY upward growth.
I will continue to post and upvote ATH posts to promote Gridcoin on crypto related tags. Feel free not to upvote them of course.
As @jringo did, I too will point to the discussion we just had on this.
I'll further point out that I have been boosting these posts to increase awareness about Gridcoin. I am perhaps even losing money on this, though I try to break even at least. I will continue to do this, as I feel it is best for the Gridcoin community, as we all of course do what we feel is best for the community.
I'm glad we as a community can have civil discourse, stark disagreements, and still in the end be very cohesive and supportive of everyone.
You can't ban it & flagging will cause stupid amounts of drama.
