rain large GRC amount when Gridcoin stakes its 1-million-block

in #gridcoin7 years ago (edited)

The 1-million block of Gridcoin is approaching (see here)...

It was suggested that the foundation (and also the community) could make a torrential rain

Open questions would be:

  • How to assure that only online wallets get that? What safeguards could be used to prevent cheating?
  • Are there other criteria possible?

When I have more time, I will summarize the existing discussion about this topic...

Until then send your donations to the below GRC address please (they are from my wallet):

  • SFTTMjb29QtzTgm4JUQwuEpiDt8X6bPM8B

As public sponsor your name will be listed in all related announcements:

  • (e.g. you could also come to IRC    and tell me in private beforehand how much you will donate, it might   be  hard to get your details otherwise. My IRC nick is: Erkan_Yilmaz)

You can of course also donate anonymously.

This is one of the ideas for the 1 million block event... see soon all listed here.

Please reply below with comments, further suggestions... Thank you!

I like the idea of a rain for everyone running their wallet at the time the 1000000th block is being staked more than the idea of giving a large amount to just one or a few people.
As far as I have experienced everything around Gridcoin and Gridcoin itself, the main focus is on the community. Everyone does as much as he can, wether it's just running his/her Raspberry Pi or their maxed out server. Everyone wants to be part of the community (and maybe get something out of it of course).
As soon as only a few people win a prize, everyone, no matter how much we are happy for the winners, kind of "lost" the lottery. That is not a feeling that should be promoted during such a great event in my opinion.
Still, thank you for all the work you do!

It would be enormously selfish to give away a reward to a single individual because they happen to be lucky enough to mine a block just because it has a specific number. We're all obsessed with even numbers as humans.

Just as you say, we are a community where everyone is doing their little part.

It would be much smarter to collect and reward everyone on the network as a great torrential rain for everyone due to this event.

I'd rather see some rain when we remove the team requirements though.

It was suggested that the foundation (and also the community) could make a torrential rain

Was it suggested by many people or by a single individual? How much, and wouldn't use of foundation funds require a poll and consensus of this usage?

Will all funds to this adress be distribute by you or sent to a coordinated attempt later?

  • suggestions: see here and the reddit link there.
  • yes, it'd need a foundation poll.
  • by me (so far I am doing all this 1millionBlock activity alone, the ideas are floating around since 11 weeks, and no one cared).

Were you successful in the end with the Pentathalon rain?

Respond directly instead of diverting to another steemit post please.

Months later the funds you collected still haven't been distributed, now more funds are being requested with personal gridcoin addresses?

It's a simple sendmany command, it's even built directly into the client on an individual project basis.

I think that distributions upon the removal of the mandatory team req would be better marketing than for an arbitrary block number count.

There's no update about the results in the end on that post. Have the rain been distribute or is it still on hold for review?

It's still a work in progress since one of the primary contributors (TG, iFoggz) seems to be busy (SB disaster and other dev stuff, ...).

In regards to that situation I don't think its good that you once again ask for donations for a rain that you may end up not being able to handle.

I don't see how donations for a rain, that you organized, have gone months of not being distributed to the users.

You are also very vague on how the terms of the distribution of funds are going to be.

I don't think it's wise to go rushing head first into something like this, when it comes to funds, without a proper set up plan on how it's going to work.

rushing head first:

personally, I don't support the torrential rain at all.

  • I only listed it because it was mentioned as an idea.

If it doesn't get executed: I like that ;-)

Then maybe not go out asking for donations if you don't intend to have it. If it doesn't go through i hope the funds be compensated back to the donators.

Is that why the rain funds remain in your wallet indefinitely then? ;D

It doesn't require additional development, it requires a project-rain command to be executed within the gridcoin client at your leisurely discretion.
