Beware Of The eBay Graphics Card Scams!

in #graphicscard6 years ago (edited)

With GPU prices soaring in the current marketplace, buyers need to be aware of these "To good to be true" scams. As most of us are probably aware by now, the graphics card market has become over inflated due to the high demand in the market and the lack of resources from the manufactures to supply the current demand, however that's a separate topic for another day.

But for you, the reader, I would like you to get an understanding of the whole picture so that YOU will not fall for these blatant scams that are still fooling some egar buyers. To briefly explain why this is happening, we need to understand why people are currently paying these over inflated prices for graphics cards.

So to begin, the issue we're currently facing is a lack of supply and demand. The manufacturers of these graphics cards (AMD and NVIDIA) do not have the resources to keep with the high demand. But why is there such a high demand for graphics card's in the current market? Well, that would be down to miners, so were lead to believe.

If you would like me to explain more of mining and really go into detail, please comment or upvote this post!

So now we're in a situation where a graphics card that originally cost £200 at launch, would not cost +£300 due to the shortage and lack of supply for trusted and reputable sellers in the market space. This is not good for both gamer's and miners, as we are put into a position where we have to go to second hand market's just to try and get a graphics card that's not even close to its original launch price.

This is where are topic for discussing comes in.

From eBay. The trusted but not so trusted online auction site. And ever since eBay and Paypal are no longer as close as they used to be in the past, its proving a lot harder to get your money back in some fraudulent cases.

Looking at the current market right now, we can see that a GTX 1080 Ti currently sells for anywhere between £800-£1100 with the current market shortage. Now those prices are extremely high, especially considering the 1080 Ti launched at around £650.

Of course you have people trying to monopolies from the shortage and that's to be expected in any lack of supply and high demand situations. So we turn to eBay to turn and find them deals that will make our hearts races, our bodies hyperventilate and our fingers move so quick that we don't even stop to think about how much money we spent.

But hold on! Don't be so quick to spend!!

You see this on eBay and you feel like you just struck GOLD! A GTX 1080 Ti for £100!! A better feeling than owning 1 whole Bitcoin am I right? Well... No.

Don't fall for it, it's very unlucky you will get rich through luck, hard work is all you need. These kind of scammers are only hurting the cryto space and damaging our reputation as a whole.

But Oh! 15 of these bad boys have been sold in the past 2 hours!! It must be real if everyone else is buying them as well. I might as well try my luck and hope for the best right?

Listen, do not rush into it, like I said, you don't become rich with luck. And gamer's, I know you want to show off that GTX 1080 Ti and play PUBG still you loose your vision, but do not fall for this. Do your research!

If we look into what else the seller has going for them. Well they've been an active user since 2007 and they've got no negative reviews and over 100 positives. This is your typical eBay scam, scammers steal legitimate accounts that real people either used or still use and they hijack those accounts to try and sell you these goods with no intention and actually meeting their part of the deal.

You might think. But Paypal's got my back, once eBay tells them it's a scam then Paypal will just send my money back. Well, that is not always the case and many people have lost a lot of money through these types of scams. I can't tell you exactly how they get away with it, because even I don't understand it that much, but it's still possible for them to get away with your money while you're playing the waiting game for Paypal or Ebay to give you a sign that you will get your money back. You will be in a limbo going back and fourth trying to get your money back. It really isn't worth the hassle and stress just for the chance of getting that 1080 Ti.

You're basically playing the lottery with your money, so don't gamble your money away in these situations. So just to go over the main points to try and help new people who want to buy a new graphics card for their gaming PC or miners looking to invest into a new card.

Main Points

  1. Do not rush into it! Think before you buy.
  2. Look at the current market prices. If it's to good to be true, it most likely is.
  3. Research!! I cannot stress how important it is. Research the seller, try contact them if you must.

I hope this article helped you or anyone looking to buy a cheap graphics card from the second hand market. Always be wary with these types of deals and do be so quick to splash your cash. You might get burnt!
