The Lamprey Mural in Sever do Vouga (Portugal)

Good night, fellow Steemians!

Here's a stunning fresh new mural that I've found this Easter, in Sever do Vouga, a small locality a bit to the south of Porto. This interesting piece is located by the Municipal Public Library, next to a garden which was recently remodeled and refreshed, just like this wall.

The strange and scary looking animals depicted in the mural are the Lampreys... and, when they are cooked properly, they taste really good. This is an expensive dish, though, since the government had to intervene - or the people would have eaten all the lampreys by now... I kid you not. We were on track to eat lamprey until its extinction. 😱

So, back to the lampreys, nowadays there are strict quotas set on fishing lampreys and the consumer must pay a bit more to have a little taste of it.

Before this area was revamped by the city hall, it was a ugly place no one bothered to visit. You can see on Google Maps how it looked, just a few years back:
