Street Art #59, Sandra Chevrier, Montreal, Canada
Today, I speak again of the mural made by Sandra Chevrier during the last Mural Festival. First, because I don't like the pictures I took last time, so I went back early one morning, quieter and with better light. And second, I read an article about her work last weekend, very interesting artist. And last but not least, I really appreciate her work.
WHERE
On the corner of Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Napoléon Street, Montreal, Canada. Close to the Leonard Cohen mural by Kevin Ledo.
WHO
From Montréal (Canada), Sandra Chevrier associates female portraits with faces filled by references to comic superheroes. On this mural, she used a painting made a few years ago, entitled La cage et le battement de cœur, from her Cages series, which made her international reputation.
Sandra Chevrier worked with assistants who helped her with the colors of the comics section with Superman. She focused on the gray and white of the portrait of the woman, an anonymous character because she wants hes message to be universal.
"My work is a dichotomy between freedom and imprisonment, cure and poison or the beautiful and ugly" - Sandra Chevrier.
