Crucial steps to help you achieve your goal

In February 2003, USA Today shared the results of an intriguing study. The year before, people set goals for the upcoming year. The study found that only 4% of those who didn’t write down their goals managed to follow through.

In contrast, 46% of those who documented their resolutions in writing were able to accomplish them.

The research confirms that simply setting goals isn’t enough. You need a clear plan to reach them. Use a special method that helps you create an action plan.

Step 1
Identify what you want to achieve in any part of your life. Be specific and write down your goal in detail. This helps you keep your goal in sight at all times.

Step 2
Set a deadline for reaching your goal. If it’s a big task, break it into smaller parts. For each part, also choose a deadline.

Step 3
Make a list of everything needed to reach your goal. Add to this list as new ideas come.

Step 4
Use your list to create a plan. Decide what needs to be done first. Some steps require completing others first. Arrange everything in the right order.

Remember the 80/20 rule: 20% of your effort creates 80% of the result. Don’t get stuck on small details that don’t help much.

Step 5
Think about what might stop you from reaching your goal. Maybe you need new skills or more information. Try to fix these issues and gather what you need.

Start working right after you finish these steps. Trust your instincts. Focus on actions that bring you closer to your goal. The key is to begin.

Step 7
Get into the habit of planning your day each morning. Do at least one thing daily that moves you toward your goal. You’ll see your goal is more within reach than you think. Over time, it becomes easier to keep making progress every day.
