Photo Series of a Chick Fighting Her Way Out of Her Shell
The first chick was way ahead of her sisters and was determined to get free of her shell.
They start by pipping, or breaking out a little triangular piece of shell with the pointy "egg tooth" on the tip of their beak. They often rest for several hours after pipping, then they start up a regular cycle of work and rest.
The chick is folded up inside the shell and can't move anything other than her beak. She pushes against the edge of the hole in her shell and chips off a tiny bit of shell to enlarge the hole. Then she squirms around to rotate just a tiny fraction of a turn and takes a rest. She repeats the cycle every few minutes until the top of the shell is almost completely separated from the bottom.
When her head is free, the chick can get a full breath of air and her strength recovers more quickly. Her next move is to stretch her legs out and kick her feet to push free of the shell.
This little gold chick is the first, but her sisters won't be far behind. (I have no idea if this is a hen or a rooster, but I call them all "she." Wishful thinking, I guess.)

I must say, I've never watched a chick break it's self out of an egg, that's pretty cool.
We call all of our new birds girls too, until proven otherwise. The power of positive thinking!
I've got some extra roosters, if you want I can send a few of them to you. 😂
That is kind of a running joke among the chicken keepers in the area.
Question - "What are you going to do with the extra roosters?"
Answer - "Turn them loose in your yard when you are at work."
Yep. I have a friend who actually has done just that!!!
I'm kind of new to all this blogging stuff.
Do you have any tips on what tools I should be using? I'm a PC, Android with some Linux kind of guy. So far most of my blogging has been done from my android tablet.

That joke is not just your area. That's a running joke (eventually) with all people who have Roosters.
I know you know that, but steemit is global so I've got to help the "city people" to understand.
I like Partiko for browsing on my phone. It is fine for simple posts, too.
Do you have a Markdown editor? I've tried to find one to make it easy to format posts, but haven't had any luck.

I'm not sure I like this Partiko. I mostly use a tablet with the bigger (~8") screen and it makes the photos too big also the layout is not what I like and no night mode (this generation now days, always whining). I'm used to the web browser interface when using steemit.
Ive installed the Markdown editor Markor. It looks like its got a lot of features but I haven't used it enough to have a good opinion. It may make great posts but it's not something you use for replying. I will try to use it for my next post.
