Freezing & Storing Aloe Vera Gel For Use Later

in #ghsc5 years ago (edited)

My two indoor Aloe Vera plants are getting big. There are so many large leaves coming from the main part of the plant and I can see new leaves vying for space and water. So before the little leaves lose the battle, I decided to cut off the larger leaves.

Between the two plants I have about seven leaves that needed to be trimmed; but what to do with all the aloe vera gel? I don't want to just throw it away to save the plants. So after a little research and looking around, I found out I can refrigerate or freeze the gel for the future.

WHAT A FABULOUS IDEA!

In my time of reading and gathering what I wanted to do with the Aloe Vera Gel... I decided I was going to freeze it. It lasts longer and can be easily used frozen for treating burns, skin irritations, etc. What could possibly be more soothing than to a burn or rash then to have a frozen piece of Aloe Vera on top of the area?

Process Of Preparing Aloe Vera Leaves For Freezing

cut.jpg

Select the leaves you want to remove and cut with clean scissors or a shape knife.

After you rinse off the leaves and clean the dirt and debris away, using a clean knife cut of a sliver along the edge removing the pricklers.

Slice each leaf into manageable pieces for freezing.

Place cut slices into clean ice cube tray and place in the freezer for a minimum of 24-hours. Once frozen you can put into ziploc bags. You can also line a cookie tray with wax paper and let the slices freeze this way.

Now when you need to cool a skin irritation or a burn, you can remove from the freezer and use for a cooling first aid treatment.

@goldendawne If you wish to preserve Aloe Vera gel for a longer time, just freeze it. All you need to do is to transfer the gel in ice trays and place them inside the freezer. These gel cubes can be used anytime and are quite effective when used on sunburns and dry skin.

WOW i didn't know aloe vera could kept frozen. I always though freezing it will damage its active properties. Thanks @goldendawne for this piece of information.

Wow this is a great idea i love it thank for shating it.

There are also drinks that use the gel. We use eat the gel:

  • boil some mung beans until it has a soft consistency
  • add sugar to taste
  • add some aloe vera gel and turn off the fire
  • done

ALOE VERA was good an indoor plant that gave clean oxygen and a bit moist that can catch dust we didn't see around the house. (^_^)

Great idea, this is why i love the community on hear, going to need a bigger freezer at this rate 😆 thanks for sharing

This is such a great idea! You've inspired me to get my own aloe plant going, and now I know what tot do with it when it gets out of hand!

I guess I never thought about freezing it. That is a good idea to try and we have re-potted several of ours indoors, but are getting close for the trimming again. Thanks for the idea @goldendawne!

Aloe vera grows naturally here, but was recently thinking if possible to freeze some so can do a whole batch. As is mainly as a lotion, I tend to squeeze the juice out with the back of a spoon or small roller - the inner pulp seems to liquify very easily. Thanks :-)
