Birds-Nest Hive Successfully Homed!

in #ghsc6 years ago

Hey everyone, another day another epic bee tale! We collected this swarm in this birds nest about a week back do check out my other post regarding these rescued bees here https://steemit.com/homesteading/@craigcryptoking/birds-nest-to-bee-hive-modification

We initially for a few days tried to 'lure' these bees into a hive to no avail, so had to resort to plan B and a great and successful plan it was.

We put to work our newly made 'Bee Sucker'. Check out a video in operation here https://steemit.com/dlive/@craigcryptoking/fb19f011-b985-11e8-8f16-0242ac110003 as well as the build of this awesome unit here https://steemit.com/homesteading/@craigcryptoking/bee-sucker-the-build

Here we have already gently sucked out the bees from their birds nest. A nice pic of the holding box containing the bees coming from the Bee Sucker unit about to be moved to their new home!

We cut this birds nest in half with a saw and easily extracted the bees and installed the combs into the new frames as below.

A closer shot of the Bee Sucker double box unit, the inner box houses the bees and the outer box is used as a vacuum as well as a safety ensuring bees do not leave the box until we have safely hived them!

Here I put an old comb from another swarm in this frame as well as a new comb containing their larvae to be installed with them in their new hive.
