Genetically Modified Food

It has not been long I came across the word GMO which means Genetically Modified Organism. It came to my knowledge with accompanying criticisms. I have tried finding more on what it is all about.

First and foremost, it is one of the newly introduced technology into agriculture. Agriculture is an important aspect of man's life occasioned by man's decision to settle down rather than moving from one place to another in search of food. Though the early lived such life but at discovery that plants can be grown he chose to settle down at safer place and begin a new life of planting what he needed.

Man, being a higher animal with super brain, has always search for ways to solve his problems, of one which was population. The increase in population according to Malthusian theory, which was at geometric rate while increase in food production was at arithematic ratio became a big challenge to man. In bid to proffer solution by stepping up food production to meet population, man, through science has introduced non-mechanized technology into agriculture to boost production.

The advancement of crude agricultural practices into mechanised brought a new era into food production for man. Thus, man could cover a large area of land with help of machine. Thanks to wisdom and knowledge.

Enough work was needed to be done but with the help of machine, to achieve sizable achievement in food production.

Today, science is making fearful advances. No much work is needed to be done. No much area of land is needed to cover to achieve so much. It is no longer how much one sweats, but how much knowledgeable one is. More work is now in laboratories. Seeds are now improved in laboratories to yield ten times what they can do organically.

I do not know the much scientific work and knowledge involved. I do not have the right terminology to use. But I know that a lot is done in the lab today and little in done in the farm. I also know that much area is needed not to cover to achieve so much food production. Most surprisingly, much soil is no longer needed.

This is a way out of food scarcity. It indeed has proffered solution to man's biggest problem, but not without a price.

For every solution to man's social problem, another social problem is created. Is there any solution to man's problem that did not create a new problem? Remind me.

It appears man is paying and will continue to pay dearly for this new agricultural technology called GMO. Why is Nigeria rejecting it? Why some informed Europeans are beginning to campaign for organic food?

I think it is not in disconnection with the effects of Genetically Modified Food has in man. Cancer is everywhere. Organ failures are common experiences.

Organic Farming

Isn't it the high time we had a rethink and turn around before we end human race abruptly.

I am tired of seeing young people begging for financial assistance on T.V to enable them travel abroad and treat cancer and organ failure.
