RE: Can we bring back the view counter on Steemit?

in GEMS6 years ago

I'd like to see that come back, too, but one problem was that the low number of views was disheartening to content creators. I always assumed that the demotivational effect of low view counts is the reason that it was removed.

Borrowing from Twitter & LinkedIn, a second metric that could also be included and might be more motivating for content creators is the number of times that a post appears in someone's feed (i.e. "Impressions").

In principle, I think that multiple front-ends could all agree to implement a standard interface for sharing either of those metrics.

Really? I thought it was the opposite. I remember having posts that had thousands of views... which actually seemed like more than they really had...

Yeah, now that you mention it, I do remember something about artificially inflated numbers on some posts, too. That had slipped my mind.

The main thing I remember from viewing posts in my feed is tremendously low view numbers, though. I also remember that several high stakes voters were very critical of posts with very low numbers of views that received high-value payouts.

Ah yes, I remember that as well. Dollar value per view was a thing for a bit there.
