Drawing Meeko and Percy

Sketch / Boceto

We start the sketch of the characters Meeko and Percy. We used geometric figures such as circles and curved lines to achieve an approximation in the morphology of their bodies, and placing some details, which will help us to better determine the general characteristics of them. Both characters were made in different layers.

Iniciamos el boceto de los personajes Meeko y Percy. Usamos figuras geométricas como círculos y líneas curvas para lograr una aproximación en la morfología de sus cuerpos, y colocando algunos detalles, que nos ayudara a determinar mejor las características generales de los mismos. Ambos personajes los realizo en capas distintas.

Outlined / Delineado

Now we move on to the refinement of the lines, here I make a clean drawing which will serve as a basis for applying the color of the next step. With the pencil brush I am modifying the pressure of the line, to obtain lines with different thickness. As in the previous step, in this one I separate the delineation of Meeko and Percy.

Ahora pasamos al refinado de las líneas, acá realizo un dibujo limpio el cual me servirá como base para aplicar el color del siguiente paso. Con el pincel lápiz voy modificando la presión del trazo, para obtener líneas con diferente grosor. Como en el paso anterior, en este separo el delineado de Meeko y Percy.

Colour / Color

As you know I use the marker brush for this purpose, but you could also use the filler tool, I use soft shades, for Meeko I use different shades of grey, just varying the brightness of it, and in Percy I use a greyish blue for the body.

Como ya saben uso el pincel rotulador para tal fin, pero también podrían usar la herramienta de relleno, uso matices suaves, para Meeko uso diferentes tonalidades de grises, solo variando el brillo del mismo, y en Percy uso un azul grisáceo para el cuerpo.

Shadows / Sombras

For the shading, I directly start to make the texture of the coat, in Meeko I use the marker at low opacity and I make long and fluid strokes to recreate the fibers of the hair, in Percy I apply a granular texture because his coat is very fine, and then with the airbrush I apply general shadows.

Para el sombreado, directamente empiezo a realizar la textura del pelaje, en Meeko uso el rotulador a baja opacidad y voy realizando trazos largos y fluidos para recrear las fibras del pelo, en Percy aplico una textura de granular ya que su pelaje es muy fino, y luego con el aerógrafo aplico sombras generales.

Lights / Luces

For the glosses we apply the same technique we use for the shadows, I make long and fluid strokes to apply small illuminated areas on Meeko's coat and for Percy I only use the airbrush.

Para los brillos aplicamos la misma técnica que usamos para las sombras, realizo trazos largos y fluidos para aplicar pequeñas zonas iluminadas en el pelaje de Meeko y para Percy solo uso el aerógrafo.

Background / Fondo

Here we recreate the port of a city, first we place a blue base where the water will go, then on that layer we design the dock where our friends are standing, and in the background some houses, drawn only with airbrush to give that touch blurred by the distance, and finally we place the glare of the sun and some waves in the water.

Acá recreamos el puerto de una ciudad, primero colocamos una base azul donde ira el agua, luego sobre esa capa diseñamos el muelle donde están parados nuestros amigos, y al fondo algunas casas, dibujadas solo con aerógrafo para dar ese toque difuminado por la lejanía, y finalmente situamos el resplandor del sol y algunas olas en el agua.

Details / Detalles

To give a more realistic touch to our design, we accentuated some shadows, placed the sunshine on our characters, and the projection of the shadow it gives on the dock.

Para darle un toque más realista a nuestro diseño, acentuamos algunas sombras, colocamos el brillo del sol en nuestros personajes, y la proyección de la sombra que da en el muelle.
