Well, it's technically worth the value that is printed on it, however, intrinsically it isn't worth much. It's the governments and their aircraft carriers that give it the stated value.
Technically it's worth how many breads and beers you can buy with it in certain year. Normal people don't measure value of currency by how many aircraft carriers you can buy with one dollar bill.
