Pat Gelsinger, CEO of VMware, the world's largest virtualization software company, believes that technological innovation can harm humanity.

In a conversation with Fortune, Gelsinger said technology companies need to take greater responsibility for the impact their products and business models have on society.
Separately, the VMware CEO touched on the topic of Bitcoin, which, in his opinion, is an example of the harmful use of blockchain technology as a whole.

According to Gelsinger, Bitcoin plays a significant role in the climate crisis, as it requires huge amounts of electricity to operate.

Creating a single entry in a Bitcoin registry takes as much electricity as a house or half a house to consume in a day," he said. - It's a manifestation of intolerance, a manifestation of extreme prejudice.

Gelsinger also noted that Bitcoin is primarily used to carry out illegal operations and is generally "harmful to humanity.

In June, CoinShares assessed Bitcoin's energy consumption and concluded that 74.1% of the cryptocurrency resources used were renewable energy sources.
