This post is the second in a series on seeds. In this series we'll cover everything from the importance of seeds, how to save seeds, how to start seeds, correct storage and so much more!

You can find Part 1 of this series here: Heirloom Seeds Part 1: The Importance of Seed Saving & How to Select The Best Seeds

In Part one I talk about heirloom seeds, their importance and also discuss GMO seeds. I mention that saving certain types of seeds can have legal consequences. I wanted to expand on that a little bit. As a back yard gardener you are not likely to encounter any such issues saving seeds however as a market gardener or farmer, the story can be very different.

I would like to share this video with you that demonstrates the true nature of "Big Agriculture" and why doing your part to preserve and share heirloom seeds is so vital.

This video is is worth watching and sharing with others.

Seeding Fear is a short documentary Executive Produced by Neil Young that tells the story of Michael White, a fourth generation farmer, who went toe to toe with Monsanto. It broke my heart and it made me angry: its a very powerful story.

Ugh, it’s so frustrating!! I don’t even know what to say. This sort of thing just makes me feel things that I’m not sure there are even words for. Anger and grief and mild psychosis would be as I could come. Thank you for sharing this.

This is one of the many reasons I try to get people involved in politics. When the US Supreme court ruled on Citizens United, they in effect gave corporations the right to buy off our elected officials. As long as this is in effect, our elected officials will continue to pass laws which gives corporations more and more rights and more and more tax breaks while penalizing the working class.

This is not a Republican problem. It is not a Democratic problem, it is a problem at every level of our government and I fear it has gone on for so long, the only way it will ever be fixed is for the entire economy and government to collapse.

Those that are debt free and can grow their own food stand a much better chance of surviving than those who depend on the government for food, rent, etc., etc.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment. We are living in scary times. Things are not sustainable as they are and if we the people don't change it's only going to get worse until it all comes crashing down because as you mention the government is a train wreck. Skills of self reliance are the best insurance a person can carry in these uncertain times.
