Farming Activities Day 1
Today has been a busy day for me and my team.
Due to the high temperatures and lack of water we decided to water our fruit trees to prevent them from drying up.
Not only trees but also some kales, spinach and kiwano apple seedlings.
Below are pictures of our day's activities.
Red Passion Fruit & tree
At this point we preparing the root base to prevent water loss which helped us focus the water at one point.
then through the piping apparatus we watered this tree for a period of 15 minutes each.
we have approximately 12 red passion fruit trees in the farm which some of them are already fruiting after spraying last week.
PawPaw aka (the angels fruit)
This is a three months PawPaw seedling I obtained it's seeds for cultivating at Nyeri Wambugu farm show.
this seedling has drought resistance properties and can do well in arid areas but instead we decided to water it too since I believe water is life
This is a mature PawPaw tree which is already fruiting and almost ready for harvesting. I sell pawpaw seeds and we can ship the seeds to any part of the world.
Orange tree fruits (seedlings)
This are five months old orange seedlings
Spinach and Kales
We cultivated this spinach and kales two weeks ago and the progress looks extremely good apart from the crickets that were cutting down the shoots but we sprayed some pesticides to prevent the damage.
we have intercropped the kales and spinach with tissue culture bananas since the kales are leguminous hence enhancing nitrogen fixing into the soil due to the nitrobacter bacteria in the roots
Kiwano apple seedlings
this are two weeks old kiwano apple seedlings and as you can see they are picking and growing at a good rate despite water shortage. one thing I like about kiwano apple is that it's drought resistance properties make it possible for the fruit seedling to grow even in dry regions and it's always regenerating even after harvesting
I love planting trees just like our own Kenyan Nobel Prize winner wangari mathai, but for me I love planting fruit trees more since you can harvest the fruits same time creating a conducive environment through air cleaning and cooling.
I might be a business man by books and education but agriculture is the backbone of Kenya's economy and being raised and brought up in the slopes of mount Kenya I find it good and responsible to carry on the agricultural tradition of my people.
that's all I have for today.
