A Steemian I only interacted with for the first time recently was remarking about healthy living, and how she loves celery but does not find it easy to obtain it on a daily basis. @fitinfun lives in SE Asia and she got me thinking about how easy it is to grow your own stuff even if space is limited.

for @fitinfun … growing celery in a pot is easy peasy.

I first started writing about the concept of a ‘grotainer’ about nine months ago. container planting and again Container planting Part Two

In these articles I explained the concept of the grotainer and it was in part, a response to the severe drought we are experiencing here in Cape Town.

Hopefully the text in the picture is visible….

It is the first time I have ever grown edible plants that have lasted more than a year while feeding me

This will be this year’s salad greens including the one beetroot plant will be for salad leaves

An ornamental pot put to good use. One thing I still need to get into a grotainer is Sweet Basil for pasta dishes, salads and pesto’s.

All photographs taken by yours truly this morning with a Samsung S7 Edge

Hopefully you will get inspired to try and grow some vegetable yourself

Great idea! Definitely a good thing to be water conscious in SA at the moment...

You are correct, especially here in Cape Town. thanks for reading

nice gardens...

Thank you...

This is wonderful! Very creative, nutritious, and delicious! Now you inspire me to dig out some of my gardening attempts - not quite as good as yours.

You should add homesteading as a tag and seek out those folks. I have a post resteemed on my feed where the homesteaders are on a list and you certainly would qualify to be one of them. I think there are close to 250 on the list now! We're pretty healthy at steemit!

thanks for the positive feedback. One of my friendliest followers was @haphazard-hstead... he was very much into foraging and homesteads. wonder what happened to him? I better look him up again...

Awesome project, I think I should also try it out^^

Is very rewarding and not much effort. Thank you for the interaction.

Very good your post my friend. Thank for sharing knowledge @themagus

Thank you my friend.

nice looking plants, I have a small lot out in my backyard doing the same but have not been successful due to my lack of attending to them, so in other words they die out and weeds start growing on my pots instead, any recommendation on vege's that do not need alot of maintence?

Read the container planting articles... both of them. For me it is the best way because one only has to fill up water at the bottom once in a while ...read and let me kno what you think??

Not a co-incidence all of us from South Africans are excitedly busy in our gardens at the moment, spring is in the air after a long cold winter, lovely post :)

Hello @lizelle... nice to meet you {pops over to @lizelle's blog} ..another KZN Steemian {friendly wave to @sweetpea} .. This is going to be a tough summer for us here in Cape Town

Hi @themagus, nice meeting you as well, have interacted with @sweetpea, after the hectic Durban flash flooding. What a pity we could not send some of that water down to Cape Town, going to be a tough summer for you guys! Not sure if you've met my nephew @therneau, also from Cape Town :) You'll have to collect brown water for gardening, praying for a miracle!

Thanks for the prayers .... is scary down here. In our family we are considering giving a shower a miss once or twice a week :( :( :(

I can just imagine, very scary!

Ah, such a nice "chat" going on here, hello @lizelle, how's it going @themagnus? Glad you like gardening too!

Hi @sweetpea, a somewhat delayed chat :) Hope you did not have too much damage with that 'hurricane' everyone forecasted ;)

I know some of them not all .gives good knowledge
