I'm so excited! Wee apple tree babies - three of them!

IMG_20180528_120933.jpg

I know it's hard to tell in these last two; my camera doesn't do close up really clearly, but the second one is at that bending upward with seed still half around leaves stage, and the third one you can just see the bent stem starting to show and a bump in the dirt where the leaves and seed are about to pop out. Hooray!!

This must have just happened yesterday, as I didn't see any signs when I watered the day before. 🎶 We're gonna have an ogham grove... 🎶

In other news, ash tree is very happy, but oh, man ...the flowers did not take to being transplanted very well. I only have one really strong one and three "hopefully they'll recover" flowers left! :( It didn't help that I transplanted and then we had a minor heat wave. But it's cooler today so hopefully that helps the weak ones recover.

Wow good luck with your apple trees. Just yesterday we cut an apple in half to share, and the pips inside had started to sprout. We normal eat the seeds but this time we rescued them and put them in our growing chamber, Half a coconut shell with cotton wool in the bottom kept moist this brings the shoots on untill they can be planted. Did you use any special soil in your pots Phoenix? 😎

Nope, I reused soil that I had in pots from past balcony gardens, which is ECO brand organic potting soil and compost, plus it still had visible eggshells in it (I crush eggshells and add them to soil; I also add coffee grinds and other natural things that sometimes squick people out). I used to feed Buffaloam compost tea, but haven't had any in a while. I have a new composting setup on the balcony this year, and it seems to be going well but I haven't gotten any tea out of it yet (it's set up to catch some though, as things break down).

We don't have any garden in my house. But our entire village looks like a garden like most of indian villages. My father is a farmer and we grow crops in large quantities typically quintals. We grow crops like cotton, paddy, wheat, cereals, turmeric, vegetables, corn, banana plantations ....Thanks to google photos for backing up my images
Here are some photos that I took when I visited home last time.

Did you grow up on a farm? Very cool!

Occasionally when I go home...I help my father in sowing seeds, putting fertilizers, watering the farm, during harvesting. So I gained pretty much knowledge in farming.

But agriculture is not very profitable in India. Government don't provide competitive prices for the crops and farmers sometimes commits suicides😥😥. Government don't provide any subsidiaries or even even godowns for safeguarding their crop during times of sudden whether changes.Farmers cannot complain and no one is answerable. They can only let their blood and sweet go in vain.

In America, they offer subsidies for only the cheap grains and soybeans - so our food supply is all corn, wheat, and soy in everything, and healthy food is expensive. This is why poor people are often overweight but malnourished here, because the cheap food is mostly those things! 😥
And then of course there is Monsanto, suing people for "stealing" their patented seeds when the pollen blows into the field of a farmer who wasn't using Monsanto seeds at all. Farmers lose everything not from a drought but because Monsanto sued them for somehow not controlling the wind.

And now Monsanto and Bayer have been allowed to join and control the worlds food supply. We all must start saving non GMO seeds and growing as much as we can. It was a sad week for freedom.

Ugh, I know, that merger is some fucked up bullshit. Shit like this is dystopian lit come alive.

Don't know when this changes....very pathetic😭😭

oh nice one :) It is always nice to see life living in front of your eyes. I also hope they will all become part of the Steem forest.

I've tried growing apples from seeds and always fail! What is the secret? Great job on all your plants!

I recommend you to place the vase in sunny area where seeds can get ample amount of light. And aslo take care of watering. Too much of watering is not good.

That's good to know. We tried in a plastic baggy with a wet paper towel.

Actually, you know how they say you're supposed to "winter" tree seeds in the fridge if they haven't been outside over winter? I said ...this apple was in the fridge a couple of weeks before I ate it, maybe even three. Let's try it! And I put them in soil. 😂 That was my successful stratification!

Smart! Thank you!

You have a forest on your balcony! Wow. You remind me of me when I had my first apartment. I had no balcony but I had plants. Lots of plants, So many that I had to move to an apartment that had a balcony. It wasn't too long after that that I outgrew the balcony and required a house with a small yard. That one took a little longer but I outgrew that one too! See a pattern here? The story continues until now, where I have a homestead with lots of space. I wonder how long it will take to fill it? You are well on your way to the same problem, too many plants and the need to move to accommodate more.

Hahahaha, I love that. I have a bunch of houseplants, too. The balcony garden is smaller this year than past years, but I am trying for trees more than veggies.
I used to work at a Home Depot, and the gardening dept manager knew I was The Plant Rescuer. She'd come to me with every sad plant they couldn't sell and give it to me for half off. I rehabbed almost all of them. Though, two were killed when my cat thought they made an excellent litterbox. :,( That is why I have a dragon tree with a bunch of knicknacks and happy meal toys blocking the dirt in it - so it's not nice to pee in. 😂

I love your post, how beautiful is your apple tree, I unfortunately live in an apartment but I plant the scallions, I recently harvested them but look at one that a week ago I love to take care of them and watch them grow.

I love in an apartment too; I'm growing trees in pots. Hopefully one day I will have a yard to plant them in when they get big! 😊

Wonderful work great stuff. I wish I could be that productive 💯🐒

I am so not productive, but thank you. 😉

It's growing that productive to me 💯🐒

Very cool! I haven't been able to start mine (yet) this year, but now that birthdays are past and graduations done, things may just slow down enough for a small summer planting. 😄

Doooo eeeeeeet! 😁🌱💛

Oooh my WOW!!! Look at you go!!! I'm cheering for you I know how exciting it is when you see that soil being pushed up <3 And lavender next, just epic!

🌱😃 I was doing a happy dance.
