Closed ecosystem. My experience. Before and after.
I decided to try it. 4 types of substrate, a couple of moss species, lichens, indoor ferns
At first everything was actively green. But after about 3 weeks, the battle for survival began. It is worth noting that, of course, solar rays are of decisive importance. Where more sun gets - there is more active photosynthesis and from that side of the flora is developing more actively. The second photo in a year. It can be seen that the lichens died (not surprisingly), sphagnum mosses took the leading place, Kukushkin flax on the second. A certain mushroom came out.
It is worth noting that it looks pretty.

Nice terrarium project! The moss sure did grow a lot in a year! Are you keeping it the same way now, or have you adjusted what is in the jar?
I used to keep a terrarium when I was much younger. I would like to start one again.
