Otherwise here i showcase some green pictures of a garden for beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) taken back in my native village in Eastern Uganda.
Beans is a staple food, grown by every family but mostly in rural communities. It makes a daily menu, eaten as one of the two meals daily, for every family.
In Uganda, it comes in several traditional and improved varieties. Common beans in Uganda range from being determinate to indeterminate.
Beans that are 'Determinate' stop producing new leaves, i.e., growing vegetatively the moment flowers have developed. They are also called 'dwarf' or 'bush' and grow up to a height averagely of one and half feet high. Those that show indeterminate growth - Vine-type field bean varieties - however continue to grow to a height even of 2.5m, flower and eventually set pods as long as the temperature and the moisture remain favorable.
In Uganda, we have several varieties of beans, including among others, Kasese - 132 (1994), NABE 2(1995), NABE 3, Nambale, K131 (1994) NABE 4, NABE 5, Obama. (Let me know if you want pictures of the several varieties, and i will gladly avail them!)
Because of its low cost, availability and long storage life, It is also the main meal, consumed daily in Academic institutions and Government incarceration facilities.
The pictures show bean leaves ‘windowed’ as a result of a pest infestation.
They were taken on 23rd April 2018 using a Canon PowerShot A2600 camera model.
