I've been working for 7 years with a good friend who started her gardening business (we don't do lawns!) about 10-12 years ago. We do re-design, maintenance of gardens and shrubs, and installation of same. her husband works with us too.
With Master Gardener you'll learn alot, but I have to say that working everyday on the job plus some classes down at Rutgers arboretum in NJ, we have become quite qualified! Also, my friend is amazing with remembering all the latin names of just about EVERY plant and tree and shrub, and she has a way with putting together color that is extraordinary.
Good luck with the Mater Gardener certificate!
