Battlegrounds is a player versus player (PvP) action game where up to a hundred players fight in royale battles, a type of large-scale defender standing in a place where players struggle to survive. Players can choose to enter solo matches, or with small teams up to four people. In either case, the last person or team left to win the match. Each match starts with a skydiver from a plane to a map area approximately 8 x 8 kilometers (5.0 mi × 5.0 mi). Airplane flight paths across the map vary with each round, requiring players to quickly determine the best time to eject and parachute to the ground. Players start with no outfit beyond customized clothing options that do not affect gameplay. Once they land, players can search for buildings and other sites to find weapons, vehicles, armor, clothing, and other equipment. These items are distributed procedurally across the map at the start of the game, with certain high-risk zones that usually have better equipment. Players who get killed can be looted to get their gear as well. Every few minutes, a playable map area begins to shrink toward a random location, with players caught outside the safe area taking damage gradually, and eventually eliminated if the safe zone is not in time; In the game, players see boundaries as shimmering blue walls that contract from time to time. This produces a more limited map, which in turn increases the chances of meeting. During the game, the random map area is highlighted in red and bombed, a threat to players who remain in the area. In both cases, players were warned a few minutes before this incident, giving them time to move to a safe place. Randomly, a plane will fly in various parts of the playable map and drop the loot package, which contains items that normally can not be obtained during a normal game. This packet emits highly visible red smoke, attracts interested players nearby and creates further confrontation. On average, full rotation is no more than 30 minutes.
