Nice post as always! I think while it's nice that the game has sophisticated and free mechanics, sometimes it drives players (like me) away. I think my favorite game like this would be Dragon Age Origins (the first one). To me it was just complex enough without being overwhelming.
True but that's why there are different difficulties and I currently play on the second one. I believe that the first one would be still challenging enough for someone that isn't a try semi-harder but not enough to drive people away. These types of games used to be quite difficult back in the day when the internet wasn't really the thing it is now.. Now it is easy as pie to find answers on google and make your life a bit easier. :)
