The Loreshaper Games 2018 Game-Maker's Competition Phase 1: Worldbuilding (June 1-June 20)

in #gaming6 years ago

Today marks the beginning of the Loreshaper Games 2018 Game-Maker's Competition, with the first phase: Worldbuilding.

Just to review, the competition will run in two phases: worldbuilding and game design, each with its own prizes. Competitors can enter one, or both phases. After each phase, we (with the assistance of volunteer judges) will choose three winners who will be rewarded with prizes of either 10 Steem or USD $30 (for six winners in total).

A World Out of Balance

The theme for the worldbuilding competition is to create a world at a pivotal point of change: it can be a civil war in an ancient empire, the discovery of a new frontier, or a fundamental change in the dynamics of the universe.

Entries must include at least 2000 words of written content. We will be be rating entries on a four-criteria rubric:

  • World Details
  • Appeal
  • Presentation
  • Theme

The first criteria, World Details, is a reflection of the depth in which creators explore the universe they are creating: does the setting feel like something that you can design a game around and have enough content?

The second criteria, Appeal, is a reflection of the appeal that the world has for our judges. Does the setting feel like it has merit as a space for play?

The third criteria, Presentation, is a reflection of the quality of formatting and any other content (such as images) included with the setting. Because the emphasis of this section is on writing, points are lost by making errors, rather than gained by including content (proper formatting, error-free writing, and images that logically relate to the setting are ideal, but having illustrations is entirely optional).

The fourth criteria, Theme, is simply a score given for remaining true to the notion of "A World out of Balance" according to the judges' expectations.

There were no entrants, so I gave some SBI shares to prominent members of Steem's tabletop RPG community instead.
