The League of Origin brings esports to Melbourne

These veteran players will be representing their state and leading their team to a hopeful victory as they head towards the League of Origins playoffs.

These state-based teams have been developing and strengthening their strategies for the upcoming event. Long days of training culminating in the teams receiving their jerseys, to be worn when competing for pride and glory at the event.

At the peak of the event, the two top teams will meet in the League of Origin grand final. Held live on the stage at Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena on November 17 2018.

The clash marks the first involvement of AFL into the world of esports. Their partnership with Riot Games was announced earlier this year, to bring the League of Origin to Melbourne.

The League of Origin format will see players form unlikely alliances, playing alongside their opponents to represent their home state.

Darren, Birch, AFL General Manager - Growth, Digital and Audiences spoke on the topic.

“League of Origin has provided the AFL with an opportunity to engage with a new audience, and we’re excited by the potential esports presents," Birch said. "We will continue to grow and develop our knowledge within competitive gaming, to facilitate best-in-class live and broadcast events".

To get behind the team representing your state and experience the action live, the League of Origin semi finals will be broadcast on Twitch.tv. Tickets to the League of Legends: League of Origin grand final are available now through Ticketek.
