Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Won’t Have Single Player Campaign

in #gaming6 years ago

According to sources close to the project, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 won't include a traditional single-player mode. Instead, the next entry will focus on multiplayer and the Zombies mode.

Sources close to Polygon have detailed why Treyarch may be removing single-player from Call of Duty: Black Ops 4. "It became evident that development on the single-player campaign wouldn't be completed," stated the source. One of the sources that spoke to Polygon stated that, "Treyarch has since focused on Black Ops 4's development on expanding multiplayer and the series' popular Zombies mode."

Call of Duty has always been known for its multiplayer and for many gamers, it is the only aspect of the game they touch. The reception that the single-player campaign for Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare received was overwhelmingly positive. But, as the years have gone by, fans and critics haven't been too kind to the campaigns found in recent games. So, it makes sense that Treyarch wouldn't want to invest large sums of money into something many gamers don't give the time of day. Focusing on the part of the game people play and enjoy is probably the best thing for Treyarch to do.

COD4 Storyline anybody? Source

This isn't the first time we have heard of a Call of Duty removing portions of their games. Reports came out that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Remastered may be released without multiplayer, which is extremely odd for a Call of Duty game.

Though there are gamers out there who enjoy the bombastic, overtly patriotic campaigns the Call of Duty games are known for, I doubt that the removal of a campaign will be met with much outrage. Multiplayer is the bread and butter of the Call of Duty franchise and is the only reason many people buy these games each year. Sadly, it seems that the future of the franchise is leaving the single-player campaign behind. Press 'E' to pay respects.

I rather have the campaign then a zombie or any other multiplayer mode.I always play the campaign first to get adjusted to the new mechanics of the game

I agree! but I guess overwatch was an exception right? haha

I guess they are following the money trend I wouldn't be surprised if they continue on this way although this does mean that multiplayer has to be top notch or pull a battle arena (I really don't want to see that).

Alternatively they could also just release the game with a promise that they will deliver the campaign mode at a later date (hopefully with co-op).

I remember when overwatch released without a story mode (single player) and it was a huge success but I agree, we all love abit of lore in any game we play so bringing it out slowly would be a great idea if they initially didn't plan to from the beginning!

Read today that maybe it will have even a battle royal mode!
Battle royale everywhere omg
