Diablo 3 Is Finally Coming To Nintendo Switch

in #gaming6 years ago

Back in February 2018, Blizzard posted a vague Tweet which said "Sweet dreams." and had a light switch being turned on and off featuring the Diablo III logo. Many naturally jumped to the conclusion that this meant Diablo was coming to the Nintendo Switch.

In March it was reported by anonymous sources that Diablo III was definitely in production for the Switch.

Well, speculation no more. Today Forbes accidentally leaked the existence and pending announcement of Diablo III for Switch. In a now deleted article that was screenshotted by a keen-eyed Redditor.

The screenshots of the deleted article can be read here here and here. Or a text version of the article is below.

'Diablo III' Is Coming To The Nintendo Switch In 2018 With Exclusive Content

Diablo III is making its way to the Nintendo Switch at long last.

The action-RPG from Blizzard, which launched on PC way back in 2012 and subsequently released on consoles, will launch later this year. The Switch version, called the ‘Eternal Collection’ includes the Reaper of Souls and Rise of the Necromancer expansions plus all the other added content the game has seen and costs $59.99.

Diablo III on the Nintendo Switch will also feature special Nintendo exclusive in-game bonuses: the Legend of Ganondorf cosmetic armor set, Tri-Force portrait frame, Chicken pet, and Echoes of the Mask cosmetic wings.

Here’s The Legend of Zelda’s Ganondorf as the Barbarian in Diablo III:
And here he is as the Crusader:

The Nintendo Switch version of the game can be played in several different ways, including docked or on-the-go.

  • Up to 4 players can play together on a single Switch.

  • Up to 4 players can play on 4 different Switch units wirelessly without an internet connection.

*Players can also team up online with the Nintendo Switch Online service (which launches in September.)

There will be cloud saving support for the game as well.

While a Diablo 4 announcement would certainly have been more exciting than yet another re-release on the Nintendo Switch, this is good news especially for anyone with multiple Switch units. I’m definitely excited to play this with my kids (particularly because my PS4 Diablo III disc is scratched.) I need something else to play with them beyond Fortnite and Mario Kart 8, after all.

It remains to be seen how the game actually performs on Nintendo Switch. The system has been a little hit and miss when it comes to ports. Hopefully we’ll hear more from those who had a chance to actually play the game (there was an event I was invited to but could not attend.) Regardless, this will be an awesome game to play on the go so long as we can read everything properly. Some Switch ports have ludicrously small text.

This will be Blizzards first Nintendo game in 15 years, so it's a big deal for multiple reasons. Fans have been clamouring and begging Blizzard for Diablo II and Hearthstone since the Nintendo Switch was released. It's clear that Diablo III coming signals Blizzard's confidence in the popular console.
