Overwatch Winter Wonderland event live

As per yearly tradition, the Winter Wonderland event in Overwatch is now live. Some maps are in winter festivity and snow themes, which is great and (n)ice to see! This event will run through January 2nd.

Upon logging in during the event you'll immediately get 1 Winter Wonderland loot box and all loot boxes gained from levelling up and the 3 weekly ones from Arcade wins will also be Winter Wonderland. Sometimes you can get a loot box instead of credits from the role pick queue in quick play, but that one seems to still be a regular loot box even with the event being live.

With recent events Blizzard has made the epic skins for the event possibly to unlock through a challenge, instead of also adding them to the event loot boxes. The skins in the middle of the picture are those that we will be able to unlock throughout the event, one skin per week. 1st week has a skin for Soldier: 76 named "Ugly Sweater: 76" which requires 9 wins in any game mode throughout the week. At 3 and 6 wins you'll also unlock an Ugly Sweater: 76 spray and player icon. Week 2 will have a skin for Moira called "Holly" you received upon 9 wins in any game mode and also a spray at 3 and a player icon at 6 wins. During the 3rd week we can unlock a spray, player icon and skin for Mercy called "Snow Angel".

I already played several games with a bunch of friends, some quick play games and mostly mystery heroes games so I already got a few loot boxes from my arcade wins and level ups and already got the Ugly Sweater: 76 skin :D

There's also a whole new bunch of content available during the event from the event loot boxes. Most of these can also unlocked with coins you have saved up, the only ones you can't get with coins are the player icons. A bunch of sprays and voice lines have been added, especially for the new heroes that came out since last year's Winter Wonderland, being Baptiste and Sigma. The amount of rare cosmetics this year is quite low, with 3 victory poses and a couple of player icons. After getting my weekly arcade boxes and a few boxes from level ups I seem to already have all of the rares thanks to guaranteed 1 new rare per loot box.

One event highlight intro has been added, which is always of epic rarity, it is for Mei and is called Festive which shows Mei hanging up christmas lights in the game screen and Snowball flying in to come look at them when she's done. For emotes, also of epic quality, two have been added this year. One for Sombra called "Regifted" where she opens a gift box containing a small robot and one for Winston called "Hello, my name is" where he waves hello and does sign language to say his name.

Skins from the event boxes are only legendary rarity, as the epic ones are awarded from the weekly challenges. There are 4 legendary skins available in these loot boxes, or for direct purchase with coins you might have saved up from previous loot boxes. A skin for Doomfist named "Jöttun", one for McCree called "Mountain Man", a "Rat King" skin for Reaper and last but not least Sigma, a newly released hero this year, gets a skin as well which is called "Rime".

From the boxes I got from playing so far I haven't been lucky with getting a legendary yet. When it comes to epics I haven't been particularly lucky either, I did get epic drop already but it wasn't one from the event. At least it was a new one for Junkrat though so I still loved to get it! :D
