As I wrote in the title, this game is like a chewing gum. Sweet at the beginning, then the flavor disappears in quick time and is replaced by a bland taste after you try to chew it for more than 1 hour. Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends Complete Edition also suffers from the same concept. This game is fun in a limited time, but after you play this game in about more than 1 hour, you will know there is something wrong in a game if you want to put the controller after so long playing.

DW8: XLCE has the same gameplay formula with its predecessors. You choose one of the heroes living in the three kingdoms of China. Well, not completely three anyway, as Dynasty Warriors 8 starts, there is an additional one new kingdom that is Jin. Once you have chosen the character, you will enter the battlefield and you can start the enemy massacre while accompanying the epic rock music.

Whichever character you choose, you will feel the strongest person in the battlefield. The attack you expel is more agile than the enemy and it makes all the enemies visible in front of you as if powerless against your powers. Attacks can you launch with a combination of two simple buttons that are box and triangle. For the ultimate attack or commonly called Musou, you simply press the circle button. Every character in DW 8: XLCE has its own Musou attack which is quite entertaining to watch because every Musou performed in front of many enemies, the result surely makes dozens of enemies thrown into the sky. Believe in disbelief, this is its own entertainment in any Warriors series.

The pattern of attacks you can inflict depends on the type of weapon you are using. Each character can use two types of weapons that can be used interchangeably. Usually a weapon that has been installed since the beginning is a characteristic weapon that you use and a weapon of another. In addition to regular attacks, each character has a unique attack called EX Attack if they use their unique weapons. For versions of Xtreme Legends this time, each character will get a new EX attack that can add variety of attacks.

In addition, there is also an affinity system (bond) that can affect the power of your attacks against enemy officers. There are three kinds of weapons affinity: Heaven, Earth and Man. Each affinity affects each other just like you do a suit. A weapon will be stronger or weaker depending on the affinity of the weapon.

There is also a new type of attack called Storm Rush. Storm Rush is an attack that can be activated by attacking an enemy using a weapon with an affinity that loses from your weapon. How do you know about the affinity of your enemy? Easy enough, look above his head. If there is an icon like a diamond, it means you are stronger, but if the icon is an exclamation mark, it means you are weak.

By using this attack, you will create a hurricane-like attack that sucks enemies around you so they can be beaten simultaneously. Quite satisfying because you feel like being rewarded with a new power after successfully unraveling the enemy's weakness.

Although it sounds adds to the complexity of gameplay, the things above do not mean making DW 8: XLCE into a game that can make you feel at home in front of the screen.

The biggest drawback and strength of the Dynasty Warriors series is the button-mashing-fest-game. What I mean here is that you will very often press the keys repeatedly in a monotone. You do not need any deep strategies or tactics. Just blindly while pressing the button between the box and triangle, you can already win the battle. Another monotonous thing I can find is that 90% of the game's goals in one level are nothing more than defeating all the available officers as quickly as possible.

One thing you may need to know too, you are not fighting alone because there is a troop of friends on your side ... but you will feel alone. Why? Your AI troop in this game is unresponsive and it seems to be the hallmark of every Warriors series. As you progress on your own, your troop forces are not moving and most of them just do a 'drag' of their bodies in front of nearby enemies while occasionally attacking.

Not only your friends, even your enemies also have the same bad AI (except some officers in certain cases). If you can think of it, your enemies look like Piñata ready to be beat up to fly. I say Piñata because often certain enemies drop the power-up items after they are defeated.

I myself am convinced that this is one game design that is intentionally implemented so that you can feel more satisfied to eliminate the existing enemy. In addition, with this kind of gameplay, young gamers will be easier to drift enjoyment of thousands of enemies easily because of the simplicity of the gameplay on offer. However, what I want to tell you here is DW 8: XLCE does not provide a different innovation in the game basically for today's gamers. Gamers of non-fans certainly feel that this kind of gameplay has been too often shown in the previous series so they will get bored faster.
