Star Wars Episode 1 Racer Unreal Engine Remake Released

in #games5 years ago

One of the few Star Wars prequel games to be generally accepted as a good release is finally getting the fan remake treatment. Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer is a 10 month long remake work by one fan, one, using Unreal Engine 4 to make it happen. Originally released nearly 20 years ago, this title has all but been forgotten by game makers as a template for how to make a good Star Wars game. That is what hardcore fans are for.

First appearing in May 1999, Star Wars: Episode 1 Racer stood out from the other George Lucas film licenses by hyper focusing on one segment of the first prequel film. The races. This means that 99% of the storyline of the movie is all but pushed to the back burner in favor of just fun futuristic racing.

When fans got their first taste of this Star Wars racing game it was hard to not at least give a passing thought to similar titles. Wipeout, F-Zero, etc. had even just a little bit of inspiration given forward and as far as I am concerned, I am perfectly fine with those bits and pieces coming together in this licensed title.

As you can see between the video above and the video below, the Unreal Engine 4 fan port is jaw droppingly gorgeous. Just look at all that detail. This is an amazing statement at just how far technology has come in a short period of time - 20 years in gaming is not that long of a time.
