ESRB Rating WWE 2K18 Explanation Made Available
Fans of the WWE are probably not too surprised to learn that WWE 2K18 received an upper level rating from the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The ESRB have released a summary for their reasoning of giving WWE 2K18 a T for Teen rating.
This is a wrestling simulation game in which players select real-world competitors from the WWE roster, compete in matches, and progress through multiple storylines. Players can perform a variety of wrestling moves (e.g., throws, holds, grapples) as well as punch and kick opponents. Some matches allow players to use chairs, sledgehammers, and baseball bats to strike opponents. Blood sometimes appears on wrestlers’ bodies/faces after being struck repeatedly by objects.
Some female wrestlers wear revealing outfits that expose deep cleavage; wrestlers may also make provocative gestures (e.g., crotch chop) during matches. The dialogue contains references to beer, wine, champagne, and being drunk (e.g., “So please crack open a beer and let’s celebrate!”; “You still drunk from last night and wander your way into the wrong arena?”). The words “as,” “btch,” and bastard can also be heard.
The rating is not all that surprising as most of the WWE wrestling games have been rated Teen, or the equivalent throughout the history rated games.

laugh Here I was thinking they went all-out and earned themselves a Mature/18+, and it's the same rating they've had since the inception of the Smackdown series. Such a missed opportunity. :)
I can only imagine how they would have gotten a Mature/18+ rating. Maybe by taking the "hardcore" match a little too literal?
Shoot, man, the show itself manages it on a fairly regular basis with the odd nipple slip, wardrobe malfunction, bra & panties match, or dragging a camera into the locker room showers. How hard could it be for the video game to follow suit? :)
Wait, what show are you watching? The PG era has gotten rid of all of that for the last decade or so. At least WWE programming anyhow. They have increased their censorship timing to about 10 to 12 second delay so those odd nip slips don't make it to television anymore.
