Is Online Poker Legal?

in #game6 years ago

The short answer:
Online poker players do not need to worry. The only time you have a problem with internet poker in the US, it will be if you really have a poker site where players can play for real money.

The long answer
Online poker resides in legal gray areas in the United States. No federal law specifically prohibits the activity. However, some politicians have tried to enforce the law on online poker. There was a late debate on online qqpoker in recent years but today, the right to play poker on the internet has ended the trial.

Online poker has been a possibility for American citizens since the late 1990s. Some players have been playing for years and years online and there is still a case of a player charged with playing internet poker. The law is just too small to make a good deal for any player accused of a crime.

Where you can have a problem wіth online poker іѕ thаt you have really started an online poker site where players can play online fоr rеаl money. In this case, you have all kinds of problems. States like their gambling monopolies to make sure they persecute you if you are trying to start a poker site or hold a poker game.

Although some states (including Washington State) have laws against Internet poker books, no player is yet charged with a crime for playing poker online. Existing laws are very fuzzy and poker is very popular in order to have a real chance for anyone who really has a problem playing poker on the computer. In addition, public opinion is huge in favor of online poker, so even the most zealous DA think twice before acting against an online poker player.

The UIGEA
The UIGEA, or law on illegal gambling on the Internet, was signed into law in 2006. This law does not violate online qqpoker or online gambling. This action targets banks and financial institutions, forcing them to recognize poker transactions and games of chance and block them.

Today, banks have a lot of trouble implementing this work. Billions of transactions take place every day іn thе United States аnd banks have no resources to identify individual transactions. At the end of 2009, the execution of the UIGEA was delayed by six months to allow more debate and give the banks more time to comply with the law.
Today, the UIGEA has proved to be an unfamiliar law. The only effect of having UIGEA is that sometimes credit card transactions are blocked on poker sites. In this case, players will choose another deposit method and proceed normally.

So, what's the last word?
Remember that I am not a lawyer and that this is not legal advice, but I can tell you that you do not have to worry about internet poker. American citizens have the right to do what they want with their own money in their own homes. Perfectly legally playing poker in a casino, it is very difficult to ignore that it is illegal to play online at home.
If you want to play poker online, go for it. I have been playing poker online for many years and I have millions of other poker players. As long as you do not really own a poker site, you'll be fine.
