@bettervision and @girlsfoundation collaborative outreach preparation

Good Day to all steemians, i write to inform you of a wonderful news for us @bettervision, quite recently nattybongo of @bettervision has been having some talks with @mcsamm, represensative of girlsfoundation in Ghana on planning an outreach program for the beautiful girls who are beneficiaries of @girlsfoundation in Ghana to have some free eye screening exercise for them, and because it is a new venture we want to indulge in it came to the agreement that we make a travel to the schools who are beneficiaries of @girlsfoundation Ghana Chapter to have talks with the school leaders and to seek their opinion and ideas as to how best and feasible it would be for such a joint collaborative effort to come to pass.

So whiles @girlsfoundation is preparing for their next outreach we went to one of their beneficiary school, Kyikyiwere Basic and Senior High School in Tepa, a town at the outskirts of Ashanti Region, Ghana. It was a hour drive from Kumasi. We were met with lots of enthusiasm from the Headmaster and teachers. The discussions went well and we ended up concluding that @bettervision could not only help the kids but also we should extend our service to the teachers and then with time perhaps even the entire community. It was agreed that we would take our time and prepare for the eye screening exercise and come again with the health team on another day but until then we should come along and educate both the teachers and students on Ocular Health and Hygiene.

So in all it was a nice trip, we had fun and we plan on being there for the subsequent outreaches to enlighten people on Ocular Health and also to Encourage the Girl Child to strive to be the best they can be in terms of their education, with female optometrist in the health team we believe it would be a great motivation for them. Once again we love to express our heartfelt gratitude to all who support us in our endeavors, special thanks to @mcsamm for helping intiative this collaborative effort. God Bless you All.

What is @bettervision about?

@bettervision is is a project initiated by @nattybongo and friends to give back to the society the knowledge and skill acquired through the Optometric Studies in Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana.It is an outreach system where we visit the less privileged communities to offer free eye screening services and education to the people within the community

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

To reduce or prevent vision loss through diseases such as glaucoma, cataract and refractive errors.

To enlighten the majority of the Ghanaian population about the importance of proper visual care.

To conscientize people on the need for regular eye checks

To get more people to have their wards screened within the Critical periods of a Child’s Vision Development; thus from ages 3 to till about 10 years.

To help the blind and people with low vision live a better life within the society through education of the general public to stop stigmatization.

Our greatest gratitude goes to @fundition @surfyogi @girlsfoundation @bleepcoin @ackza and @wafrica for helping to make the aims and objectives of @bettervision a reality.
