25th Feb 2019 - Updates on the Bolyartsi Project

Greetings, friends!

@manoldonchev here with an update on the project in Bolyartsi village, Bulgaria.

If you are unfamiliar, here is the project description in short:

Stage One

is about introducing new social and artistic perspectives to a small community - one of countless such in Bulgaria and in the world as a whole. The purpose is to engage people in more interesting initiatives where they live. Our first village is Bolyartsi where a photo exhibition is being prepared.

Stage Two

in Bolyartsi village will be preparing and empowering people living there to continue our artistic and social work through lectures, practice and projects to work on together. One of those will be an album which has been started already.

The Latest News

We've been all over the place these days and communication is slow. I am waiting on updates concerning the results of last week's live meeting.

What was it about?

We hope that artists currently studying at the academy will travel from Sofia to help us change the looks of the venue. Meanwhile, other people from other villages in the area of Bolyartsi have shown interest and would like to be involved in such a project, too.

It is still too early to talk about certainties but it seems wheels are beginning to turn and our role may soon be one of maintaining the momentum and suggesting ideas to entities responsible for their own cultural development.

I will share the news as soon as I have feedback on this.

And a wonderful feedback from a person suggesting to try and take a similar photo of the crew a few years from now. But will they be there? The really important question is... Will anyone of them have a reason to be there?

Previous Progress:

A website has been created;

Photo prints have been given away to local people who were glad to receive their portraits;

A venue for an Exhibition has been secured;

Work on a album has begun;

The main portion of photographic material for the exhibition has been prepared. Waiting on guest authors;

Stage One has been more than 13.7 % funded so far and we keep on going. Due to the plan changing towards including more participants in our first exhibition there, the date will be set for later in the Spring of 2019.
