Santa Claus Parade and Annual Sickies

in #fun6 years ago (edited)

Good morning!

I should still be sleeping, it's only 3 AM but my throat hurts like hell, yikes! I am so crossing my fingers none of the boys would wake up with any cold symptoms🙏

We have been living in NE BC since 2011, and each year, we (try to) always go to the Santa Claus Parade. Fun family time, yet we always end up with the cold the next day!

Been living in 3 different provinces in Canada, Santa Claus Parade is always held in November, which makes sense as Canada can be so cold in winter, especially starting in December.

In NE BC, the Santa Claus Parade is always held in the evening even. It's crazy to think. Windy, freezing night, yet families showed up with their littles, to appreciate the float and to wait for Santa to greet them, but it's a tradition. It's nice yet at the same time it's crazy 😅

Last night was better than previous year(s) though. For once, the wind was calm, the snow didn't fall, nevertheless -18 C was still too cold to stand outside for almost an H, you know, even with 3 long sleeves, a sweater, snow pants and jacket! I even always have the boys with two pairs of socks on, yet my oldest would often say 'it's getting too cold, mama', after awhile waiting for Santa to come by.

So the next day, one or two of us would wake up with the cold....it's like a tradition as well in the end 😅😅

Why subject yourself to this? You may ask.

It's all depending on the kids. If they want to go, we go, if they'd rather stay home (which I often secretly wish for, as much as I (used to) like winter, parade and whatnot, am a tropical girl, give me -5 C, not below!), we stay home. That is why in the beginning of this blog I typed 'we always try to' as once or twice we skipped not to go (mostly due to the weather).

What about where you live? Do you have Santa Claus Parade too?

Now let's see the difference of Santa Claus Parade in Montreal. Was always in November as well, but much, much less crazy, in fact not crazy at all. Never snowing yet and was always in day time. No annual sickies when we attended 😂😂😂😂

Thanks for looking!

No Santa parades here in Nicaragua. But when we lived in Ontario we did. They used to be held in the day time but before we left we began to see a trend to shift ti night time parades. Perhaps they felt that lights on a float would make it more magical.

Yes, here the reason is also due to the lights

People sometimes send their protests to the city as night is just too cold, but some would also protests if it's done in day time as they want to see the festive lights 😂

Thanks @cecicastor!

You're welcome.
