Fukushima at Eight | Ongoing Cover-Up of a Catastrophe

It has been eight years since the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant in Ōkuma, Fukushima had multiple nuclear meltdowns, hydrogen-air explosions, and released radioactive materials in reactors 1, 2 and 3. The meltdown was caused by a Tsunami which was a reaction to the Tōhoku earthquake.

What followed has been years of highly radioactive waste being dumped into the surrounding environment and water slowly contaminating the World as we know it.

In the latest edition of the Global Research News Hour they discuss the severity of the Fukushima event and that if it does not constitute an extinction level event, it is certainly an ongoing health and environmental hazard deserving of at least a portion of the public attention currently directed to climate change.

The official death toll of Fukushima itself is just one individual who died of Cancer directly caused by Radioactive contamination from the meltdown, however, the true death toll is likely considerably higher and the environmental damage is catastrophic.

There have been hundreds of photos of aquatic life which appear to show radiation-induced tumours, however, on further investigation, the majority of these are false claims and in most cases, the images were taken long before the event occurred. The media has also played down any possible long term health defects that Fukushima may be responsible for:

Here, there is more contention among the experts. Some argue that any radiation dose, however low, adds to cancer risks. If so, then a few hundred people scattered across Fukushima could eventually die from the extra radiation. But others say there is no evidence of increases in cancer among populations around the world who have been exposed at the levels experienced in Fukushima. “We don’t expect any health effects from radiation at Fukushima,” says Gerry Thomas of Imperial College London. source

But make no mistake, though as time has passed this catastrophe has been slowly removed from the public eye and its damaging effects downgraded from catastrophic to ‘an incident’ its effects will be felt across the World for generations to come.
